Another year, more New Year's Resolutions


Here comes the end of another year. Time to review your progress and set some new goals. Have you achieved what you hoped for in 2017?

Whatever your goals might be - to exercise more, lose weight, quit smoking, go on a holiday or change jobs, there are a few things that might help you get there.

Set achievable goals.

Dream big but start small. Be really clear about what changes you would like to make. Your goal might be to go to the gym more, but it is helpful to be more specific - how often will you go each week and when will you fit it in?

Make a plan.

Think about the steps involved to reach the goal. Make short-term goals as well as longer term ones.

Be accountable.

Write your goal down or tell someone. You are more likely to follow through.

Be patient.

Change takes time.

Don't give up.

Things don't always go to plan. You are bound to have a 'slip up'. It's normal. Hang in there and try not to get down on yourself.

Stay positive. A negative mindset makes it much more difficult - and unlikely - that you will achieve your goal. Learn from any mistakes and keep focused on what you are working toward.

Get help.

It's not always easy to achieve your dreams. Ask your partner or family for help. Get a friend on board for support. Seek professional advice.
